Lexide As Used in Cut Flush Loose Leaf Products

Lexide is the name given to a high quality cover stock that is a single-ply, non-woven material made of pure rag fibers, mixed with latex and formed. The formed stock is then acrylic coated to give it a washable, moisture proof and tough pliable finish.

Lexide materials are measured in thousandths of and inch and are generally available in thicknesses of .010, .017, 025 and .030". The .010 gauge is most frequently used in turned edge applications, while the other three gauges are used in cut flush applications. The .017, .025 and .030" Lexide materials are available in four different grades of quality. The quality difference is found primarily in the finish of the back side of the material, and are identified as follows:

No Back Coat: The back of the material is a natural base stock and has not been treated. Generally found on darker colors.

#1 Back Coat: This is a color coating only. The coating closely matches the color of the front side. It will rub off easily and has a dull appearance.

#2 Back Coat: A pigmented aqueous acrylic coating which closely matches the face color. It is a semi-matte coating designed to be glued, but it will crack under both wet and dry conditions.

#3 Back Coat: A pigmented aqueous acrylic coating with a clear top coating which will match the color and appearance of the face. It is a shiny, durable coating with dirt and water resistance. It will resist cracking under both dry and wet conditions. Special adhesives, such as Gane's 53S Casing-In Adhesive , must be used for gluing.
